- Taken from before she finds out she's pregnant for a second time.
- She had a twin sister, a fiance, and a daughter. They died in a car crash two years before the story started.
- From Earth circa 2016, but then an alien invasion happened. Earth seriously lost and has been under the yoke of aliens for ten years now.
- The Aliens are a technologically advanced space-faring civilisation with a culture that is 'ancient history to the middle ages with a hefty dose of fantasy'. There are values disonance because of this. Seriously. There are a lot of them and it isn't pleasant.
- She's been married to the Military Commander of the aliens for ten years. Not willing but it beats being Very Dead and her whole family being Very Dead. She's one of three wives.
- She's legally a slave; that should tell you what the aliens think of humans. Opt-Out post is here!
- She's suffered a lot under her husband. It hasn't been pretty, and she's had to adapt to rather heinous things. She's made the best of it because she's had zero choice.

Brief personality
Slave. Victim. Survivor. Brave. Drinker. Focused. Graceful. Modest. Perceptive. Realist. Reserved. Stubborn. Tenacious. Survivor who does what she must.
Ishtar is all of these and more. She holds a certain ruthlessness under everything and is a person with many facets. Many are subtle or only show when they finally bubble over, yet some are glaringly obvious, almost as if she's pushed them to the surface.
Reclusive yet kind to a fault, distant yet happy to help. Fierce, strong-willed, and capable of being a leader should the chance be given. Unflappable yet also willing to fold if those she cares about are threatened. She loves like there is no tomorrow, yet can also hold hatred that festers and bubbles until it boils over and her formidable temper shows.
She does her best and honestly believes she is doing the right thing with the actions she takes. She has the strength of will to both carry them out yet also to step back and admit, "I fucked up on this. How do I make amends?".
She has C-PTSD and will power through it as it is 'inconvenient'. It should be noted that this not even remotely healthy and Ishtar is an Idiot. She has survivor's guilt related to the deaths of her fiance, her twin, and her baby daughter, to say nothing of what she's lived through because of her marriage. Yet, Ishtar makes the best of life, too, because that is what they would have wanted. It's what Freddy would have wanted.
It's what she must do to survive until she either can't do it anymore or she dies of old age.
Her view on her husband is summed up as 'I am fond of him, but I do not love him'. Yet for all the fondness, she is rightfully terrified of him: he is her master and holds her life in his hands. Stockholm, even.
And oh boy does she know it.
Lastly, she abhors the practice of slavery and would rather it was not a very real thing in her life, but she's willing to use the laws to keep what is hers safe. To keep herself safe.
She does not see herself as a victim, but as a survivor of the games fate seems to play with her.
